Functional Principle:
The Opal 460 is a fully hydraulic, water-cooled hot mounting press for embedding metallographic specimens.
During hot mounting, the sample is encapsulated in the press using a plastic granulate under heat and pressure.
Advantages of this process include the high hardness of the mounting material (e.g. glass fiber-reinforced) and excellent edge retention.
Hot mounting compounds are available based on epoxy resin, acrylic resin, phenolic resin, and graphite resin.
Main Area of Application:
Encapsulation of specimens to improve sample preparation for further metallographic analysis.
