This alloy is used when conventional chrome-nickel steels are no longer sufficiently corrosion-resistant.
Especially when chloride-induced pitting and crevice corrosion, as well as stress corrosion cracking, are a concern.
Alloy 59 is used for: environmental engineering, chemical industry (chemical processes with oxidizing and reducing acids, resistance to moist chlorine gas), and waste incineration plants. Primarily, 2.4605 is used in the chemical industry, pulp and paper industry, and in flue gas desulfurization plants.
Excellent resistance to mineral acids such as nitric, phosphoric, sulfuric, and hydrochloric acid, and particularly to sulfuric/hydrochloric acid mixtures.

- Plant components for organic chemical processes with chloride-containing media, especially where chloride-based catalysts are used
- Multipurpose plants in the chemical industry
