Used concentration/evaporation system (evaporator). Previously used for the separation of water from a surfactant solution. The plant’s throughput for this process was approximately 8–12 m³/day of a water–surfactant mixture. The system was built by Ecotecno in 2011/2012 and was decommissioned in April 2022.

Process description:
The evaporator operated from 2012 to 2022. It distilled wastewater with a solids content to approximately 40% of the total liquid volume. Based on the owner’s experience, the actual machine capacity ranged from 8 m³ to 12 m³ per day. The system comprises a distillation vessel (evaporator) S101 operating under vacuum, a shell-and-tube heat exchanger (E101) functioning as a condenser through which the wastewater is circulated by the recirculation pump (P102). The tubular heat exchanger heats the liquid for distillation. The concentrate is then discharged from the system by pump (P103). Vapours pass through a plate heat exchanger (E102) and are routed to the collection tank (S103); both distillate and concentrate are withdrawn from the system. Non-condensed vapours pass through a vacuum pump (P101) and are sent to the vacuum pump holding tank (S102), where they are cooled via an internal coil.

The system can be described as a single-stage vacuum evaporator with a condenser. It includes a vacuum "flash" vessel, a distillate tank, a vacuum tank, and a plate heat exchanger.
