The machine therefore accepts a very wide range of formats, from 254 × 254 to 824 × 1,143 mm, which allows it to handle both small formats and genuine 8-page plates.
Exposure/Mechanical Section
The MAKO 8 uses a 405 nm violet laser. ECRM states that the single beam can be calibrated according to the sensitivity of the plate. The maximum resolution of 3,556 dpi also allows for the use of demanding screening techniques, including stochastic screening.
The system is mechanically quite interesting: the plate is positioned on a pin-bar registration system and then moved under the laser head by the Precision Drive System. The documentation specifies a positioning control of ±2 µm.
The registration system is interchangeable to accommodate notches corresponding to the presses used, which aims to improve plate/press registration and reduce setup time.
