Plunge Rolling: The thread rolling dies with the same pitch as the workpiece form the thread by penetrating into the workpiece up to the nominal diameter. The maximum thread length corresponds to the width of the rolling dies.

Through-feed Rolling: Used when the thread length is greater than the die width. Through-feed dies have three sections - the lead-in, the calibration zone, and the lead-out. Groove rolls have no pitch and are swiveled according to the thread pitch angle to be rolled.

Pitch rolls differ from groove rolls by having a pitch in the profile. The sum of the pitch angle and the swivel angle gives the pitch angle in the workpiece.
