The machine’s concept is extremely straightforward: the workpiece is loaded into the machine. A quickly adjustable stop with pneumatic locking centers the workpiece. By activating a foot switch, the workpiece is pneumatically clamped and automatically conveyed to the drilling unit at 30 m/min. The vertical spindles drill from below, thus preventing chips from remaining on the workpiece, unlike machining centers. The horizontal spindles operate on two sides of the workpiece. Workpiece length is unlimited, as the workpiece is conveyed to the drilling unit (X-axis). The drilling spindles are individually or collectively programmable and travel along the Y-axis. Drilling depth and horizontal drillers are controlled via the Z-axis. After all drilling operations are completed, the workpiece is returned to the loading side or, if required, conveyed to the discharge side. Unlike conventional machining centers, where the workpiece is clamped with vacuum fixtures that need to be set to the workpiece size, this step is entirely eliminated with this 3-axis point-to-point drilling machine.
