In the plunge grinding process, workpieces with stepped or profiled external surfaces—such as nozzle needles, valves, crank pins, and transmission or electric motor shafts—are machined. Potential technologies include straight or angled plunge grinding, single or multiple part plunge grinding, plunge grinding in multiple operations performed either simultaneously or sequentially, as well as oscillating plunge grinding.

Through-feed grinding is used for machining non-profiled workpieces, such as cylindrical and tapered rollers, rings, bars, and hydraulic spools. This grinding method is highly productive and is mainly used for series and mass production of precision components. Centerless grinding is a method for grinding cylindrical bodies and is commonly employed for mass production of rollers — such as cylinders, tapered rollers, nozzle needles, pump pistons, hydraulic spools, crosses, centers, etc. In centerless plunge grinding, the workpiece is ground in a single pass thanks to the contour of the grinding wheel. For this purpose, both the grinding and regulating wheels feature a negative profile of the workpiece to be machined, which is created using a dedicated tool. Centerless through-feed grinding, also referred to as through-feed and longitudinal grinding: the workpieces to be machined pass continuously through the grinding gap with axial feed.
