3.1 Charpy Testing
The Charpy anvils consist of a solid cast base body. Test-specific parts, such as supports and anvils, are selected according to the sample spectrum.
The anvils, which can have a significant influence on the test results due to surface roughness and radius, are produced entirely by precision CNC machining and are 100% measured. ZwickRoell does not offer one-piece anvils, as they are difficult to manufacture with tight tolerances. During installation, the spatial position of the anvil relative to the pendulum striker is ensured using an optional gauge.
As anvils are subject to higher wear than supports, two-piece anvils can be replaced independently of other accessories at low cost. To adjust the impact point to the sample width in the impact direction, quick-change adapter plates are used. Adaptation to the sample thickness (vertical direction) is achieved using appropriately dimensioned supports, which are precisely positioned by locating pins.
Optional accessories for the impact tester include a pivoting safety screen and alignment units, which position the sample either at the notch or at the end face to the center of impact.
