The Hosokawa Alpine Contraplex CW pin mill is fitted with two counter-rotating powered discs. It is used for pulverizing soft materials, even those with high fat or moisture content. Additionally, it can process certain flexible materials or products that must retain their properties during milling by using cryogenic mode with liquid nitrogen (LN2) to freeze them. This micronizer is ideal for milling various coarse products into fine powder, suitable for a range of industries where micronization is required, such as minerals, chemicals, food, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, recycling, and more. This granulator can be used for pre-shredding, crushing, and chopping various materials. It is able to process coarse materials up to approximately 3 Mohs hardness, achieving medium to fine final fineness with coarse particle sizes d97 from 40 to 500 micrometers (µm), depending on the product, with minimal energy consumption. The turbo mill can achieve this wide fineness range thanks to its two counter-rotating pin discs (pins or studs) to achieve the desired final particle size. This allows the same machine to grind various products from fibrous roots or spices to plastics, granulated chemicals, or mineral products. The milling occurs inside the grinding chamber where the rotor, equipped with pins, impacts and propels particles against the various rows of pins, reducing their size. The process gas carries the fines to the mill discharge for the next process step, typically a filter. Sometimes a cyclone is installed between the mill and the filter, or even an air classifier. Due to the required air volume, only a low temperature increase is expected during grinding compared to other granulation and crushing technologies.
